10 Ways To Quickly Increase Your Home and Business Security

Use digital signatures and encryption for sensitive information

Use digital signatures to verify that an email message is really from the person who supposedly sent it and that it hasn't been changed

Use encryption to protect sensitive information, as it is encoded. The only person who can decode it, is the person with the correct key

Minimise the access other people have to your data

Lock your computer when you are away from it

Disconnect your computer from the internet when you aren't using it

Laptops should be secured physically to furniture and not left unattended in car boots

Use separate user accounts for multiple users

   Dispose of sensitive information properly

Simply deleting a file does not completely erase it

Understand that software programmes and hardware devices that claim to erase data have varying levels of effectiveness

Destroying storage media is ultimately the only effective way of disposing of sensitive information
